3D Animator — Junior / Early Career

Remote worldwide · ~2–5 hours/week, with room for more · Independent contractor · Paid per agreed milestone

We are looking for an early-career 3D animator who already understands the fundamentals and wants to turn them into real game production experience.

You don't need to know our full pipeline from day one. If you have a solid foundation and are ready to learn, experiment, and take on practical animation tasks, we can figure out the rest together.

Your first characters

Who you'll work with first

Your first animation tasks will focus on the main playable character and several supernatural characters already being developed for the game.

3D character model of Dora Lightwood in a blue medical uniform and white apron

Main character

Locomotion, movement, interactions, and player-facing animation

Side-profile 3D character model of Emily, a ghost with pale eyes and grey-green skin

3D character model of Mara, a blindfolded ghost wearing a twig crown

Ghost / creature

Practical production

What you'll work on

  • Main character locomotion and gameplay animations
  • Ghost and creature animation
  • Interactive objects and environmental animation
  • Improving and cleaning up existing rigs
  • Preparing animation for Unreal Engine
  • Exploring MetaHuman / Control Rig workflows where useful

As the animation side of the project grows, there may also be opportunities to work on cameras, character acting, cutscenes, and more cinematic sequences.

A strong starting point

What we're looking for

Animation fundamentals

You understand the basics of keyframe animation and character movement.

Basic rigging knowledge

You understand how character rigs work and are comfortable learning more.

Some locomotion experience

You have created basic walk, run, idle, or similar movement cycles.

Curiosity

You're interested in learning a real-time game animation pipeline.

Maya experience is welcome, but not mandatory.

Unreal Engine experience is useful, but we can help with integration if this is new to you.

No formal degree or previous studio employment is required.

Pipeline & learning

Tools we'll explore together

Maya

Preferred for shared production context, but not required

Cascadeur

A tool we want to learn more deeply, with resources to support that

Unreal Engine 5

Integration, gameplay systems, Sequencer, and Control Rig

MetaHuman / Control Rig

Existing skills are welcome, or learn them through the project

We are still developing parts of our animation pipeline, so you won't be expected to arrive with every answer already figured out.

When useful, we can invest in courses, software, assets, or other learning resources. We also plan to involve experienced animators for reviews or consultation when possible.

Transparent from the start

Compensation

This is a small self-funded indie project, so compensation is currently modest.

Work is divided into clear tasks or milestones, and compensation is agreed before the work begins.

Additional bonuses may sometimes be offered for particularly strong contributions.

Portfolio & NDA

Your work stays useful to your career

Parts of the project are covered by NDA, but you can prepare portfolio breakdowns of the work you personally create and clearly describe your responsibilities and process.

For unreleased content, publication timing may need to be coordinated with the team.

This may be a good fit if…

You've learned the fundamentals of 3D animation and now want a real project where you can apply them, build production experience, and gradually take more ownership.
